"A MONUMENT marking the grave of Brig. Gen. John Taylor Hughes, who was killed while leading Confederate forces in the first battle of Independence, August 11, 1862, was dedicated yesterday at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence. About 30 descendants of General Hughes were among the 60 persons who attended the event. Shown (standing from left to right) are Byron Hughes, Turney, Mo.; Mrs. Inez Hughes, Osborn, Mo.; Judge Henry A. Bundschu, who gave the dedicatory address, and Mrs. J.
