Monument Dedication - Aug. 11, 1963

Newspaper Clipping from the Kansas City Times dated August 12, 1963.  Caption under the photo reads as follows. 

"A MONUMENT marking the grave of Brig. Gen. John Taylor Hughes, who was killed while leading Confederate forces in the first battle of Independence, August 11, 1862, was dedicated yesterday at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence.  About 30 descendants of General Hughes were among the 60 persons who attended the event.  Shown (standing from left to right) are Byron Hughes, Turney, Mo.; Mrs. Inez Hughes, Osborn, Mo.; Judge Henry A. Bundschu, who gave the dedicatory address, and Mrs. J. Roger DeWitt. president of the Jackson County Historical Society.  John Dudley Hughes, Osborn, Mo. is kneeling.  The historical society and the Hughes family bout the marker."
