GEORGIA'S VETERANS RECEIVE SUPPORT
FROM GEORGIA'S SONS

(Dublin, GA - Sept 27, 2013)  On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, veterans at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia were honored and received support from the Georgia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.  The event was the 10th Annual SCV Salute to American Veterans held at the VA in Dublin.

At the annual Salute, between 250 and 300 patients, along with their family members, are fed and entertained throughout the day. Roughly 100 pounds of chicken and sausage are grilled and served with sides and homemade desserts. Throughout the years, the veterans have enjoyed live bands, wheelchair races, car and motorcycle shows, and even the General Lee, the always popular 1969 Dodge Charger of the Dukes of Hazzard TV and movie fame.
Goodie bags, which contain items donated by local merchants, are given to each patient, along with larger door prizes that are drawn throughout the day. SCV members and Mechanized Cavalry members from across the state ride their bikes to the Salute for the veterans under police escort. The bikes are available for display, and past events have allowed patients to award trophies to the bikes for various categories. Other popular events of the past have included magicians, clowns, and wheelchair races.
Georgia Division Commander Jack Bridwell has been a popular keynote speaker throughout the ten years that the Salute has been held.

The event was spearheaded by Commander Steve Scroggins and the Lt. James T. Woodward Camp of Warner Robins. Originally, the event was the vision of Russ Huffman of the SCV Camp in Jeffersonville;  Huffman was the event chairman for the first eight years.  SCV members from across the state volunteer time and money for the event.
For more information or to have the SCV present an educational program for your event, please contact Jack Bridwell, Division Commander for the Georgia Sons of Confederate Veterans at 1-866-SCV-in-GA or view information online at www.GeorgiaSCV.org.
