Danville 29 Bypass Cabell Memorial Battle Flag Documentary/Update

A crew from Sky High Poles raises the Commonwealth's largest Confederate Battle flag at a ceremony attended by over 700+ supporters on land leased by the Va Flaggers adjacent to US Rt. 29, just north of Danville, Va, July 23rd, 2016, Photo Courtesy Judy Smith Photography
On the day of the flag raising ceremony in Danville, there were a number of media outlets present.  One of them was a documentary film maker from Richmond.  Although we had no idea what kind of piece he was producing, we thought the finished product turned out very well and wanted to share it with all of you, especially those who couldn't be there that day...

Although the video has been removed, the content of this report remains, and was one of our favorites...
http://www.virginiafirst.com/news/local-news/largest-confederate-battle-flag-flies-near-danville
DANVILLE, Va.
If you are driving on route 29 near Danville, you can't miss the World's largest Confederate Battle flag on the side of the road.
Standing at one hundred and nineteen feet tall and 30 feet by 50 feet in dimension, there is no confederate battle flag which can rival it.
This is the 14th battle flag installed near the last confederacy capital during the Civil War.
A group called the Virginia Flaggers decided to put big flags up all around the area after City Council of Danville prohibited flying the flag on city property.
"There are folks that want us to go away. They want our history to go away. They want that flag to go away, because they know what it really means and it really means resistance to tyrany and an over reaching federal government , and we're still fighting that battle today. This is our history, our heritage, and we're not going to lie down and let these people take it away from us," said Susan Hathaway, who is the founder of the Virginia Flaggers.
Though the flag is met with some opposition from the public, today there were no protestors at the ceremony.
The group says they have already been contacted by another Danville resident who wants to put a flag up and the group says they will not stop putting up flags any time soon.

Finally, sharing these great comments from a Danville resident, posted online. These words beautifully summarize the situation in Danville...and many other localities across America...
"For MOST it is about heritage, honor, and respect for their ancestors. They were ok with that taking place at the graves of the veterans and historic sites, but once the few places that had flags, statues, and monuments were attacked, their only recourse was to protest. The entire city of Danville stood as the Last Capital, not just the mansion, but preservationists were content with that one small monument in 40 square miles. I'd say they had already compromised as far as humanly possible. Are their protests big? Yes, but they (and their views) have been totally disenfranchised and eliminated. Their view and opinion is instantly disregarded by most and labeled hateful and racist ( before they can even articulate it). (The actions of) one idiot in SC with one picture buried in his Facebook posts was able to (be leveraged by others as an excuse to) destroy historic statues and monuments and change the names of streets, colleges, and sports teams. The COEXIST crowd doesn't really want that, they want inclusion, but only those who think the same."

After 54 years, Confederate flag removed from Statehouse

Click here: After 54 years, Confederate flag removed from Statehouse - AOL.com

To all concerned:

The lowering of the Saint Andrews Cross Battle flag alongside the Confederate Soldier's Monument in Columbia, SC today should serve as a reminder to all Southern Americans to wake up to reality, and understand how the revisionists, spineless politicians in our own Southland, the liberal media, liberal white supporters, big business, the NAACP and the public outcry both in South Carolina and around the nation, subsequent to the recent shooting of nine black church members in Charleston, has resulted in a frenzy to remove the flag that honors the brave and heroic soldiers from South Carolina and throughout the Southland, who fought to protect their homes, property, way of life, religious faith, defense of limited constitutional government, excessive and burdensome taxation, etc.; against a tyrannical form of government and the invasion of its homeland by hostile union forces during the War Between the States.

It should also serve as a warning to all of us including the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, that this cultural genocide of everything remindful of the old South and the heroic struggle for southern independence is underway to eradicate confederate monuments on courthouse property, the allowance of individual states to choose whether or not they wish to display the flag on SCV license plates along with an attempt to remove all flags and any symbols of the Confederacy.

We have a duty to these brave and noble soldiers to keep their memory alive and the struggle for which they gave their full measure of devotion and duty. They were honorable American soldiers and deserve the full respect for their tenacity, bravery and honor for which they fought time and time again against the armies of the north who possessed overwhelming numbers and resources.

From 1641, when Massachusetts first legalized slavery, until 1865, when the Confederate struggle for southern independence ended, slavery was a legal institution in America that lasted over 224 years, but the U.S. flag and its colonial predecessors flew over legalized slavery for all of those 224 years. It was the U.S. flag that the slave saw first, and it was the U.S. flag that flew on the mast of those New England slave ships that brought their human cargo from Africa to the U.S.

Northern slave ownership is not widely known in the U.S. and New Englanders not only sold Negroes to southern planters but kept slaves for themselves as well as enslaving the local Indian population. It is very clear that those who cry racism, bigotry, division of the masses, etc.; have never been properly educated in the real truth of the American slave trade, as well as the conception and purpose for the battle flag which was used to signify the southern soldiers in battle.

I made decision one year ago to remove the US flag from my flagpole at home due to the fact that the country that my father gave blood, sweat, and tears for during two tours of combat in Vietnam, is the same country that today has a President who dishonors it's military, pulls US troops out of Iraq when the war had been won, lies to the American public repeatedly, is lawless in abusing his power and position, supports and has been an advocate for homosexual marriage, does not nor cares to enforce our nation's southern border where thousands of illegal Hispanics, including those who are criminals enter our country daily and commit personal as well as property crimes against our citizens, only to be released again into our cities to commit further crimes.

The flag of the U.S. represents my country that stands by idly watching thousands of ISIS terrorists behead American journalists and untold thousands of professing Christians being beheaded by these demons from hell. God will severely judge this nation and its leaders for allowing such horrific slaughter to take place when we have the means to stop it. The flag of the U.S. flies over the souls of 60 million unborn babies who have been aborted and murdered since the 1973 Roe versus Wade decision depriving these human beings of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The flag of the U.S. flies over as country with irresponsible leadership that has amassed an 18 trillion dollar debt along with over 90 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities. The flag of the U.S. represents a country that sends millions of its manufacturing jobs to China, Mexico, etc; and are being screwed by these other countries.

The flag of the U.S. represents my country that under the current administration has been hostile to the land of Israel and God's chosen people the Jews. The flag of this country represents a nation that is conducting an arms treaty deal with Iran which is the world's leading sponsor of terrorism around the world, and will do so at all costs to protect the legacy of the current administration. I could go on and on.

This does not make me an unpatriotic American, however, until this nation honors God and his commandments that were employed by our founding Fathers, respects and honors our brave law enforcement officers throughout the nation who have been maliciously attacked and ridiculed for no just cause, enforces the laws that are on the books and honors, respects and enforces the Constitution as written, enforces limited government and allows the nation to be governed by the consent of the people according to the Constitution, I will choose to fly the Battle flag that represents true freedom, true honor, respect for individual rights, property, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Had the citizens of South Carolina been allowed to voice their opinion as a whole in a vote on whether to retain the flag by the soldiers' monument or remove it for placement in a museum, everyone knows the answer. The people of that noble and patriotic state would have voted overwhelmingly to keep it where it belongs. The government of my home (Georgia) is home. It is not to be ruled by some President in Washington. Georgia and each state within the United States of America should be ruled by its individual state governments.

It's time to wake up and understand that our freedom of religion, our past traditions, history and other freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution is being attacked and hijacked by a secular progressive, liberal mindset that wants to take religion out of the public square, and create a country that is dominated and dictated to by an all-powerful centralized government.

May God help us. If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways and seek my face, I will hear from Heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14.

In closing, I would like to personally thank Governor Haley of South Carolina along with the S.C. Highway Patrol Division in retiring the Battle Flag on the Capitol grounds in Columbia, S.C. with dignity and honor.

Sincerely:

MUCH more solid proof is provided).

"Historians used to know - and it was not too long ago - that the War Between the States had more to do with economics than it did with slavery. The current  obsession with slavery as the "cause" of the war rests not on evidence but on ideological considerations of the present day. Gene Kizer has provided us with the conclusive case that the invasion of the Southern States by Lincoln and his party (a minority of the American people) was due to an agenda of economic domination and not to some benevolent concern for slaves. This book is rich in evidence and telling quotations and ought to be on every Southern bookshelf."

Emeritus Distinguished Professor of History
University of South Carolina

"Gene Kizer persuasively shows how the North fought the South out of necessity to prevent economic collapse. No where else is proof of this motive made clearer with indisputable evidence. Mr. Kizer writes with authority from the desire to tell the truth. His common sense style is the product of honesty. One cannot read his work without concluding that this is a man to be trusted."

The House Wants a Do-Over on the Confederate Flag

BY JASON PLAUTZ

As a country we no longer respect the dead. We no longer respect history. As the Native Americans learned long ago, federal promises mean nothing.

Congressional Act of 9 March 1906

We Honor Our Fallen Ancestors

(P.L. 38, 59th Congress, Chap. 631-34 Stat. 56)

Authorized the furnishing of headstones for the graves of Confederates who died, primarily in Union prison camps and were buried in Federal cemeteries.

Remarks: This act formally reaffirmed Confederate soldiers as military combatants with legal standing. It granted recognition to deceased Confederate soldiers commensurate with the status of deceased Union soldiers.

U.S. Public Law 810, Approved by 17th Congress 26 February 1929

(45 Stat 1307 – Currently on the books as 38 U.S. Code, Sec. 2306)

This law, passed by the U.S. Congress, authorized the "Secretary of War to erect headstones over the graves of soldiers who served in the Confederate Army and to direct him to preserve in the records of the War Department the names and places of burial of all soldiers for whom such headstones shall have been erected."

Remarks: This act broadened the scope of recognition further for all Confederate soldiers to receive burial benefits equivalent to Union soldiers. It authorized the use of U.S. government (public) funds to mark Confederate graves and record their locations.

U.S. Public Law 85-425: Sec. 410 Approved 23 May 1958

Confederate Iron Cross

(US Statutes at Large Volume 72, Part 1, Page 133-134)

The Administrator shall pay to each person who served in the military or naval forces of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War a monthly pension in the same amounts and subject to the same conditions as would have been applicable to such person under the laws in effect on December 31, 1957, if his service in such forces had been service in the military or naval forces of the United States.

General Robert E. Lee Remarks: While this was only a gesture since the last Confederate veteran died in 1958, it is meaningful in that only forty-five years ago (from 2003), the Congress of the United States saw fit to consider Confederate soldiers as equivalent to U.S. soldiers for service benefits. This final act of reconciliation was made almost one hundred years after the beginning of the war and was meant as symbolism more than substantive reward.

Additional Note by the Critical History: Under current U.S. Federal Code, Confederate Veterans are equivalent to Union Veterans.

The Battle For Our National Cemeteries

We take justifiable pride in our Confederate forebears, men and women, who sacrificed their all for the cause in which they believed. The Confederate soldier won the admiration of the world by his courageous fight against an enemy overwhelming in numbers, equipment and implements of war. With few exceptions they were volunteers who fought for principles of government in which they believed. Although defeated, they left us traditions of faith in God, honor, chivalry, and respect for womanhood; they left us a passionate belief in freedom for the individual. Our Confederate ancestors bequeathed to us a military tradition of valor, patriotism, devotion to duty, and a spirit of self-sacrifice.

When our nation no longer admires and pays tribute to these traditions, we will no longer remain a free nation.

That is part of the introduction that every SCV member was read before they raised their right hand and took the oath to become a member in the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The last sentence in bold is a warning, and we are seeing that warning come to light. Every Southerner and Free American has to fight against the cultural genocide that is blanketing this country as we speak. A call went out yesterday to call your US Senators and Representatives and you must continue.

I urgently request that you contact a US Representative today and tell them to vote no and ask for a written reply back. Please use the links below to help with the phone numbers of your members of both the Senate and House.

The House Wants a Do-Over on the Confederate Flag

House will vote Thursday to undo previously passed amendments that would remove the flag from federal land.

July 8, 2015 On Tuesday, the House unanimously passed three amendments curtailing the display of the Confederate flag in national parks.

Thursday, there will be a do-over.

As a marathon debate came to a close on the fiscal 2016 spending bill for the Interior Department and Environmental Protection Agency Wednesday evening, Rep. Ken Calvert, a California Republican, offered up an amendment that would alter previously passed amendments on the bill related to the sale of Confederate flag merchandise and the placement of the flag on graves on federal lands.

The amendment is set for a recorded vote Thursday, putting individual lawmakers on record on the display of the flag for the first time since the June 17 shooting that killed nine people in a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Calvert's amendment would reaffirm a National Park Service policy requesting the removal of merchandise featuring the Confederate flag as a symbol, set in place after the shootings. But it would scale back Tuesday's amendment from Rep. Jared Huffman, D-Calif., that sought to make the policy permanent on future contracts.

Calvert's amendment also would undo a separate Huffman provision that looked to ban the display of the Confederate flag on graves on federal lands. Current NPS policy allows certain local groups to place the flags on graves only on Confederate Memorial Day and removes them as soon as possible.

The provisions had previously passed Tuesday by voice vote with no one speaking in opposition, and so Calvert's move Wednesday was a surprise to Democrats, coming after 8:00 p.m., at the very end of the spending bill debate.

Calvert said simply that the amendment would codify existing National Park Service policy. An aide to Calvert said that his language would only undo language that goes beyond NPS policy and would not affect an amendment from Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, which would have blocked funding for the purchase and display of the Confederate flag on NPS land outside of a historical context.

Rep. Betty McCollum, who was leading debate for Democrats, said she could not "hide my surprise and my outrage," and she urged members to "stand with citizens of all races and remove all symbols of hatred from our national parks."

"We should uphold what this House stood for yesterday, which is to say no to racism, which is to say no to hate speech," she added.

In a statement, Rep. Nita Lowey, ranking member on the Appropriations Committee, said in a statement the amendment "would shamefully challenge the emerging national consensus that government must not countenance such a symbol of hatred and intolerance."

The vote allows Southern conservatives a chance to weigh in on the language. Rep. Steven Palazzo of Mississippi, for example, said in a statement Wednesday that he was upset that Tuesday's flag amendment had been "slipped into the bill in the dead of night with no debate."

"Members of Congress from New York and California cannot wipe away 150 years of Southern history with sleight-of-hand tactics," Palazzo said and vowed to fight the language.

A week after the racially motivated shooting at Charleston's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Park Service said it would remove Confederate flag memorabilia from its bookstores and gift shops. The applied ban applied to stand-alone items; books and DVDs containing the flag would still be sold. The move followed similar actions by retailers such as eBay, Wal-Mart, and Amazon.

The amendments, however, may never become law. The White House has promised a veto of the spending bill because it relies on sequester spending levels and contains riders that would block several aspects of President Obama's environmental agenda.

Confederate Flag

From: cscitizen@windstream.net
To: ghanner@thestclairtimes.com

To the Editor:

For the last couple of weeks it's been interesting & upsetting to watch the white liberals & black activist clamor for the banning of everything Confederate. Some have even carried this modern day form of Nazi book burning so far as to call for the banning of the American Flag & the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C. What`s to be purged next in Obama`s United Socialist States of America`s Stalinist purge?

The difference from my side of the fence as compared to theirs is, if I do not like something, disagree with it or it offends me I live with it because I know its history & everyone sees parts of history as good or bad but, its still history & history should not be rewritten, censored, banned or changed in any form.

The left which declares itself to be tolerant, inclusive, diverse & welcomes everyone in is a lie. They only feel this way if you agree with everything they believe, want the same thing`s they want & are just like them. Otherwise, they do to those with different likes & opinions as they accuse the other side of doing to them. Which blows away their claims of inclusiveness, tolerance & being a diverse group with room for everyone & where every race, creed, color & religion are welcomed. So long as you like or hate everything they do.

It's clear to me the left does not understand or does not want to understand that being a real American means to live & let live & if you want respect you have to give respect to others, their history & symbols even if they offend you. Every nationality in America has a different background, history & culture. If those on the left refuse to understand this then it is they who are the threat to the social fabric that makes this country America.

The left has an agenda to push using everyone, their history, culture & symbols against them. Obama, with the lefts help, has fundamentally transformed America into a racial pressure cooker with little hope left for anyone. The rest of us just wish to be left alone to be Americans so we can celebrate & enjoy America`s differences, not ban them. This includes Southerners who are a part of America & the things that are theirs as well.

Va Flaggers: VMFA Update - "But No More Than That..."!

VETERANS VOTED TO DEED LAND FOR MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS IN '33
By Ellen Robertson (Richmond Times-Dispatch – November 11, 1993)

"The R.E. Lee Camp of United Confederate Veterans voted to deed a chunk of the Confederate Soldiers' Home grounds at Grove Avenue and the Boulevard as a site for a state museum of fine arts 60 years ago this week.

The Veterans approved a site of about 300 feet fronting the Boulevard and a 175-foot strip along Grove Avenue for what would become the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, a structure to cost $250,000.

But no more than that, the veterans emphasized. They still hoped the rest of the property could be developed as a Confederate memorial park.

Gov. Garland Pollard said work on the museum would begin immediately."

"But no more than that, the veterans emphasized." The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) exists today ONLY because of the generosity of the Confederate Veterans who donated the land for the museum to be constructed. In return, less than 100 years later, Museum and Virginia officials have stolen the rest of the of land, and stripped the Confederate Memorial Chapel of its Battle Flags.
The Virginia Flaggers entered our THIRD year of flagging the VMFA with nearly 2 dozen flaggers on the Boulevard on September 27th, including Flaggers who traveled from as far away as Tennessee and Confederate Mizourah to join us!

Our Flaggers were on the Boulevard for a full day, and were surprised and thrilled when a delivery of pizza showed up, courtesy of an anonymous supporter!  :)

Beautiful weather meant plenty of opportunities to talk with museum visitors, residents, and tourists, and a Russian news station stopped by for an interview...

Flagging has continued, throughout October, twice a week, with October 1 marking the three year anniversary of the very first flagging.

Three years of forwarding the colors, standing for our ancestors, and changing hearts and minds.  Even so, every flagging brings a new opportunity to educate.  These ladies stopped and asked (with great skepticism) about what was going on with "all the flags on the sidewalk". They listened to a brief explanation of the situation at the Confederate Memorial Chapel and left with fliers in hand, a new perception of our flags, and a new understanding of those that who carry them and why.

Midweek flagging brought a special surprise, as we were joined by a supporter all the way from ALASKA! We were so thankful that he took time out from his visit to come stand with us!

We enter our third year of flagging the VMFA with renewed determination and commitment to seeing the Confederate Battle Flags returned to the portico of the Confederate Memorial Chapel.
Join us, and be a part of those "taking it to the streets", and standing for our Confederate veterans.
RETURN the flags!
RESTORE the honor!
