Victory at Ball's Bluff! We Did It!
Back in June, we announced our campaign to preserve the Jackson House at Ball's Bluff in Virginia. Adjacent to the Ball's Bluff Battlefield Regional Park, these three acres were witness to the initial fighting on between Mississippi and Massachusetts men on October 21, 1861, that opened the Union disaster at Ball's Bluff. This land and the wartime Jackson House represent the last significant part of the battlefield yet unpreserved.
Today, on the 152nd anniversary of the battle, the Civil War Trust is proud to announce that we have successfully saved the site of the Jackson House at Ball's Bluff. Thanks to the generosity of our members we have raised the $50,000 needed to preserve these three acres where the Battle of Ball's Bluff began. Thanks to you, we have once again saved a key piece of American history for future generations.

Florissant Veterans Day parade

Gentlemen - a reminder or first advisement, as the case may be - the Major James Morgan Utz camp in Florissant is participating in the Florissant Veterans Day parade this year, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 10th and we'd really, really appreciate all the extra bodies who can join us. This parade is big. It's comparable to the one in downtown St. Louis. Please advise your camp members and invite all to come be a part of this event. Bring your camp flags, uniforms and arms.

The parade staging area is the park along Washington Ave, a couple of blocks east of Lindbergh , in downtown Florissant. Starting lineup at 11:00 AM with the parade scheduled to begin moving at 1:00 PM. There'll be refreshments at the end of the parade. If you arrive fairly early you can park around the staging area and there'll be transportation back to your cars. Or if you prefer, you can drive ahead to the Florissant Civic Center, where the parade ends, leave your car there, and a bus will take you to the staging area before the parade. We should be finished by 3:00.

Our unit parade theme this year is remembering the more than 3,000 Confederate veterans from North St. Louis County, which should raise a few eyebrows along the route.
There are quite a few military vehicles in this parade and on display at the Civic Center as well, so children really enjoy this parade. Bring the family.

Please spread the word among your camp members. Many thanks.

Bob Arnold
Maj. Utz camp, Florissant.

INVITATION TO ATTEND ANNUAL WIRZ MEMORIAL SERVICE

WIRZ MEMORIAL SERVICE AT ANDERSONVILLE GEORGIA. The annual memorial service for Capt. Henry Wirz is hosted by the Americus SCV camp. The service will be held Sunday Nov.10. The Lee county band "A Joyful Noise" will play and sing period Confederate music and Southern Gospel from 2 to 3 PM. The formal memorial service will begin at 3PM. The dynamic and knowledgeable Pastor John Weaver from Fitzgerald will deliver the memorial speech. The Albany SCV camp is helping promote the event again this year. Journalist Carlton Fletcher will publish a pre-event article in the Albany Herald newspaper. All SCV compatriots, UDC ladies, and the general public are invited  to attend. Capt. Wirz was the victim of a farce trial that was a travesty and a dark blot upon the history of the U.S. judicial system. Wirz is a Confederate Martyr and his persecutors are infamous villains and liars.

Contact me for more information or contact James Gaston  (gaston7460@bellsouth.net) who is the chairman of the Wirz memorial service and a member of the Americus SCV camp. You may also contact Americus SCV camp commander John Carroll (carrolljohnbiii@bellsouth.net).

Abolition Crusade Ends in the Sword

A primary cause of secession was constant and irresponsible agitation by fanatical abolitionists who fomented slave rebellion.  A last straw for the South was the realization that prominent Northern leaders and Republican politicians had supplied John Brown with money and weapons as well as legal support after his capture. Not forthcoming from the abolitionists was a reasonable, peaceful and sincere solution to African slavery in this country.

Abolition Crusade Ends in the Sword:
Montevideo, Monday, November 7th, 1859
Rev. C.C. Jones to Mr. Charles C. Jones, Jr. (excerpt)
"The Harpers Ferry affair proves to be more serious than at first it appeared to be -- not in reference to the Negro population, for that had nothing to do with it; but in reference to the hostility of large numbers of men of all classes in the free States to the slaveholding States, even unto blood, and their readiness to aid and abet such attempts with counsels and money, and to employ reckless agents to carry them out.
There is a covert, cowardly, assassin-like heart in these men. Why do they not arm and come to the field in open day? From the tone of the abolition press in the free States, both secular and religious, there is great sympathy for the prisoners at Harpers Ferry. Some go so far as to justify the act, and only condemn the time and manner of it! The whole abolition crusade which has been preached for thirty years ends in the sword. The volunteering of counsel for the prisoners from the free States is another proof of sympathy in their crime, and an insult to the justice of the South.
Some of the papers friendly to the South hope that the South will be forbearing and magnanimous! Against the miserable lives of these men who have plotted arson, robbery, murder and treason over a vast portion of our country, who may weigh millions of property, millions of lives, the virtue, the order, the peace and happiness of our people, the majesty of the laws, the sacredness of religion, our constitution and our Union?
There is no place left for forbearance---no ground for compromises. The magnanimity of the South must not be exercised towards public criminals of the deepest dye, but towards herself in all her greatest and best interests, and towards our common country. Such sparks like these, struck to produce a universal conflagration, should be stamped out immediately. Such enemies should be met and overwhelmed without quarter in a moment.
If the conservative and loyal men of the free States, who we believe do now possess the power, are willing and ready to rule down this spirit of treasonable and violent aggression upon an unoffending and invaluable section of our country, we shall be most happy to see them do it."

Rachel Maddow "lost" on Confederate flag / Marine Corps history

Patriots,
I was informed this morning of the comments by Rachel Maddow of MSNBC (Marxist Station Nationalized By Communist) regarding the gentleman waving both the Confederate flag and Marine Corps flag at the White House during the rally of Veterans in Washington this past weekend. Maddow commented how the flags basically "clashed" as U.S. Marines fought against the Confederacy. Reference her comments in the below short video:

http://video.msnbc.msn.com/rachel-maddow/53281428/#53281428
You are partially correct Maddow: Following secession, only a fragment of what was left of the U.S. Marine Corps actually fought against the Confederacy.
Upon secession, 75% of the US Marine Corps sided with the South as the South created a Confederate States Marine Corps. After the war and through WWII, the Marine Corps was known tongue-and-cheek by the other branches as the "army of the Confederacy." Some even referred to the Corps as the "offspring of the Confederacy" because the sons of many Confederate Veterans carried the Southern-Confederate traditions as leaders of Marines. One of these men was the 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps, General John A. Lejeune who was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He also wore a United Daughters of the Confederacy War Service Medal, which links his campaign service and Louisiana Confederate lineage, on his Marine uniform. Another descendent of numerous Confederate Veterans was Lt. Gen. Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller - the most decorated Marine in our history. Chesty, a Virginia native, noted he patterned himself after two Virginia sons - Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee. Following his retirement, Chesty would periodically make a            pilgrimage from his home in Saluda, Va. to Lexington, Va.  to visit the graves of these ardent Christian men.
These traditions were weaved throughout the newly reformed Corps and Confederate Battle flags flew at Marine bases alongside the Stars and Stripes until the Civil Rights movement in the 60's when Washington politicians forced their removal. Marines posted Confederate Battle flags on Okinawa and Iwo Jima after securing those islands from the Japanese. The tactics used during ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore fighting by the Confederate States Marines were carried over to the newly reformed US Marine Corps after the war starting the amphibious warfare the Corps is known for.
I'll bet Maddow has never heard of Colonel William Oscar Brice. He was the Marine Commander on the Solomon Islands during WWII. Many of the Marines, Navy, and Army personnel under his command were Southerners. Bowing to his Confederate lineage and that of his personnel, they were not known as "US Forces Solomons." Instead, they were known as the CONFORSOLS - Confederate Forces Solomon Islands. They flew the Stars and            Bars instead of the Stars and Stripes on their headquarters island appropriately called - New South, Georgia. The aircraft they flew (namely SBD's and Corsairs) were named after Confederate steeds. Colonel Brice's killing order: Yank's first; Jap's second. They were even sent formal permission to colonize the island by noted Richmond, Va. newspaper editor and Robert E. Lee biographer Douglass Southall Freeman. And though Colonel Brice took a small public relations hit because of this organization, he maintained it because it boosted the morale of his men.
Marxist Maddow needs to gear down her openly lesbian lifestyle and gear up some true history. Then again, that would "clash" with her pinko agenda.

Battle of Olustee-action needed

YOUR ACTION NEEDED TO STOP "SPECIAL" FEDERAL MONUMENT AT OLUSTEE BATTLEFIELD STATE PARK
Compatriots,
A new heritage attack has been launched at Olustee (near Lake City, Florida), and your help is needed.
In anticipation of the 150th anniversary of the battle that protected Florida's capital from falling, the Sons of Union Veterans has obtained approval from the State of Florida Parks Department for a special monument to invading Federal forces.  The plan calls for a large black Darth Vadar-esque shaft that will disrupt the hallowed grown where Southern blood was spilled in defense of Florida, protecting Tallahassee from capture.
We fear the State may have a legal right to do so.  Therefore, in order to stop this we must win the war through citizen objection.
Confederate Forces won the Battle in 1864 - but will we win the 2nd Battle of Olustee and prevent this menacing monument from disrupting this hallowed Southern soil?
We can and will - but only if you take action today!

TAKE ACTION NOW!
EVERYONE -
Please call or email Florida Governor Rick Scott
Call  -  850-717-9418 or
E-mail - Visit the following site to send an email -
Message - Please request he intervene and cause Florida Parks department to not approve a 'special' monument that glorifies only one side at Olustee (in this case the side of the invader).  The State of Florida already did her duty in erecting a monument to ALL Veterans of the War.  To allow a 'special' monument to one side now is only divisive, disruptive and disrespectful.
Please send this request to everyone on your list and if you have Facebook or Twitter, post it and then share it to            your like-minded friends - especially ones IN FLORIDA.
SPECIAL FOR FLORIDIANS -
ATTN FLORIDIANS:   Please also contact your legislators by PHONE and EMAIL.  Tell them you want the Park Service's plan STOPPED. Enough is enough!

BACKGROUND
In 1912 a Monument commemorating the Battle and Forces of Both sides was erected by a Monument Commission established by State of Florida.
Current 'balanced' text on the current Federal/Confederate/Battle Monument erected in 1912 by the Commission established by Florida Law:
"The Battle of Olustee was Fought on this Ground February 20th 1864
Between 5,000 Confederate Troops Commanded by General Joseph E. Finegan and 6,000 Federal Troops under General Truman Seymour.
The Federals were defeated with a loss of 2,000 men.  The Confederate loss was less than 1,000."
